My paintings have been described as peaceful and slightly surreal. I find the act of painting to be very meditative. That experience is evident in my work. Ultimately the exploration is one of the inner self that translates through the subject.

Phyllis Disher Fredericks has exhibited in many solo and selected group exhibits throughout the eastern United States. She has received numerous awards including the Rottler Award for Excellence in the Arts. Her work is included in both private and corporate collections.

Disher Fredericks, a native of northern New Jersey, has been painting in oils since the age of ten. She received a degree in Painting and Sculpture from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts where she studied with noted artists Hans Weingartner, Samuel Brecher and James Carlin.  She has also studied at the Adobe School in CastroValley, CA, the Scottsdale Artist’s School in Scottsdale, AZ, and the Barnstone Studios in Coplay, PA.

Disher Fredericks career has also been a teaching career. From 1987 -1999 she was an adjunct professor of art at York College of Pennsylvania, York, PA, where she taught foundation and advanced painting courses. She presently teaches at the York Art Association and is a Pennsylvania Artist in Residence with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Arts in Education Program. In addition Disher Fredericks has been an active advocate for the visual arts. She has served as president of the York Art AssociationBoard of Directors, served on the Cultural Alliance of York County Partners Council and curated the Cultural Alliance of York County Governors’ Awards for the Arts Exhibition.
